Research shows that one in five Australians have chronic pain in their lifetime and 5.2 million Australians suffer sports-related injuries each year. This makes the necessity of pharmacists being to provide the most relevant and up-to-date advice on musculoskeletal conditions and injuries commonly seen in the community pharmacy setting and to provide pharmacists with the appropriate knowledge to be able to assist their customers and be part of Multidisciplinary Team

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the basic anatomy and common injuries
  • Identify opportunities to expand the community pharmacy business model to take advantage of shifting and growing market in aged care, rehabilitation and sports medicine.
  • Discuss the role that community pharmacy may perform in management of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries;
  • Identify and recommend non-pharmacological pain management,
  • Identify information that community pharmacy staff may require in order to prescribe the appropriate orthopaedic products
  • Identify how community pharmacy can collaborate with allied health practitioners in the management of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries

CPD Credits

This activity has been accredited for 1 hour of Group 1 CPD (or 1 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 1 hour of Group 2 CPD (or 2 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.
